Galatians 6:7 - Do not be Deceived (11-14-11)

Galatians 6:7 - "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap."

There are consequences for everything we do both good and bad. Every action has a reaction. The devil wants to deceive us into believing that we can live however we want to and not have to worry about consequences. Many "Christians" think that salvation is just a get out o hell free card and since they have it they can now live however they want to as long as they end up in heaven. While it's true that our salvation does not depend on our performance, it will always produces a change in our conduct. We're not saved by good works, but Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we're saved for good works. The point is that whatever we sow we will also reap. We really have only two options. We can sow to the flesh and reap corruption, or we can sow to the Spirit and from the Spirit reap eternal life. Anything sown to the flesh will not last, it will ultimately perish. Galatians 6:8-10 says - "For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith."
Sowing to the flesh does not exclusively mean sowing iniquity, although that's certainly involved. Job 4:8 says - "According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity and those who sow trouble harvest it." But sowing to the flesh is also merely spending time in things that, while they're not necessarily wrong, they're just worthless. The only things that have true value are eternal things. anything that isn't eternal or that God cannot be glorified through can be classified as worthless.
Sowing to the Spirit consists of doing those things that have eternal results. Proverbs 11:18 says - "The wicked earns deceptive wages, but he who sows righteousness gets a true reward." A true reward. That's not talking about anything temporal. In Colossians 2 we're told that in Christ Himself are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. If all true riches are in Christ then everything we reap in the Spirit will last forever because He is eternal. We read in Hosea 10:12 - "Sow with a view to righteousness, reap in accordance with kindness; Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the
Lord until He comes to rain righteousness on you."
Romans 2:6-10 tells us that God will make sure that everyone will reap what he sows. Those who are His will reap eternal life, and those who are of the world will reap destruction. There we read concerning God - "Who
will render to each person according to his deeds: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
We're also told in Scripture that the extent to which we sow is the extent to which we will reap. 2 Corinthians 9:6 says - "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully."

Galatians 6:7-10 - "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith."
