Isaiah 26:3 - "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusts in Thee."
The focus of our mind has a lot to do with whether we're fearful or calm, whether we're anxious or in peace. And according to this verse, the person whose mind is stayed on God, the person who has a constant God consciousness is kept by God in perfect peace. It's easy to get caught up with and distracted by the things going on in the world, and so often these things rob us of our peace. When I think about the state of the economy and how rapidly our country is going downhill I start to get anxious, but then I think about the sovereignty of God and how He is working all things together according to His ultimate purpose and according to His perfect plan, and He gives me peace.
In Philippians 4:6-7 Paul gives this exhortation - "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Lifting up all our anxieties to God in prayer is a sure way to get the peace of God. Paul says that after praying the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds. O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
Our mindset is important. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee."
In Philippians 2 we're given a perfect example of the proper mindset. In verse 5 it says - "Have this mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus." This passage goes on to talk about the mind of Christ. How, although He is God, yet He humbled Himself and lived the life of a servant, and lived His life in complete obedience and submission to the Fathers will. He was obedient to the point of death, even death on the cross.
That's our example. That's the mindset we need to have. Jesus didn't care about His own rights, He desired only to do that which was pleasing to the Father. Colossians 3:1-2 says - "If then you were raised with Christ, keep seeking those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth."
Just like Christ, we need to have a heavenly mindset. We need to keep seeking those things which are above, set our minds on doing the will of the Father. And as a result, He will give us perfect peace. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusts in Thee."
1 Peter 1:13 - "Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
