Consider His Testimonies (10-1-11)

Psalm 119:95 - "The wicked wait for me to destroy me; I shall diligently consider Your testimonies."

As you probably know, the theme of Psalm 119 is the word of God. All except for 5 or 6 verses mention the Word of God in some form. So the psalmist says in verse 95 - "I shall diligently consider Your testimonies." This consideration of the word of God isn't something that is to be done just every once in a while, but notice the word "diligently". The dictionary defines diligence as being constant in effort to accomplish something; attentive and persistent in doing anything: done or pursued with persevering attention; painstaking. That's the idea here when the psalmist says he will diligently consider Gods testimonies. You can read through Psalm 119 sometime and just notice the emphasis on the Word of God. The longest chapter in the Bible is focused on the importance of this book. Just having that knowledge, it's no wonder that God wants us to consider His word. We're told in Hebrews 4:12-13 that - "the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do." We're told in 2 Timothy 3:16 - " All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." The word of God is our food. If we neglect it our spirit will starve and become weak, so we need to be diligent to daily feed on the Word of God. Not just read a chapter a day to keep the devil away, but actually spend time considering what God is saying to you through His word. And the more time you spend feasting on His Word the more nourished you will be. Christendom today is filled with too many people who have no understanding of Gods Word because they don't spend any time considering it. The Psalmist said in Psalm 119:11 - "Thy Word I have treasured in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee." One of the best ways to be diligent in our consideration of Gods Word is to hide it in our hearts. This way it will come to mind as we go throughout our day. It's amazing how often, as I'm working on a project or going through some menial task of my day, the Lord will bring a passage to mind and give me an insight or understanding of that verse, or a connection in the Scriptures that I had never considered before. Be diligent to hide Gods Word in your heart and the natural outcome will be a diligence to consider it.
