Darkness (11-24-10)

It's interesting how many of Gods great works began in darkness.
Genesis 1:2 - "The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters." Creation began in darkness.

Jesus' human life started in the darkness of Mary's womb. Matthew 1:18 - "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit."

When Jesus died on the cross we read in Mark 15:13 - "darkness fell over the whole land."

And when He rose from the dead, John 20:1 says - "Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and saw the stone already taken away from the tomb."

God often still works in darkness in our lives. We can't always see where our paths are heading, and it can cause us to get anxious. His working isn't always revealed to us, but obviously, God knows what He's doing, even when we do not. He created the world in darkness, He was conceived in darkness, He died in darkness, and He was resurrected in darkness, unseen by us or anyone else, and all according to His perfect plan. When we're walking in darkness God doesn't want us to fear. He simply wants us to trust Him, and rest in His perfect wisdom. Just because we can't see what He is doing doesn't mean He isn't working.

Psalm 23:4 - "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."
