Encourage (9-19-10)

We're told several places in the Bible to encourage one another. Encouragement is essential in the body of Christ. It's profitable, and it's also very easy to do.
Isaiah 35:3-4 says, 'Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the feeble. Say to those with anxious heart, "Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; The recompense of God will come, But He will save you."' Here in Isaiah we're told to encourage the exhausted and strengthen the feeble by assuring them of our coming salvation. Living a godly life in the world today can be very exhausting, but when God comes to judge the wicked we will be saved. Encourage one another in our coming salvation.

We are the house of God. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 we're told to “encourage one another and build up one another.”
Hebrews 3:13 – “But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” This verse tells us that daily encouragement will keep us from sin. Encouragement isn't a hard thing. A simple, "I'm praying for you" or "Keep living for Christ" could be enough to keep your brothers and sisters from stumbling. That's how we build one another up. Just sharing a quick Bible verse or thought, even if you have to take a minute to make a phone call, or write a quick note, isn't it worth it?
Encouragement builds us up individually as well as collectively. If we're encouraging one another, not just receiving encouragement but also encouraging others, not only are we building up the individual members, but also the body as a whole.
Philippians 2:1-2 - “Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.”
Romans 15:5 -  “Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus.
Encouragement unifies us.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 – “We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.”
