2 Peter 1:5-7
"Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self control, and in your self control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness..."
Step 1: Faith
Step 2: Moral excellence (virtue)
Step 3: Knowledge
Step 4: Self control (temperance)
Step 5: Perseverance (patience, endurance)
Step 6: Godliness
Godliness means just what it sounds like it means. Becoming more God like.(Christ like) Conforming to the laws or wishes of God.
According to 2 Timothy 3:12 -"Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." The order of these things is important. We need to add to our perseverance, godliness. If we live godly, we will be persecuted, so we need perseverance to endure the persecution that comes from godliness.
But why should I live a godly life? What's in it for me? First Timothy 4:8 says, " godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."
1 Timothy 6:6 -"But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment."
