Revelation 4:8 - "And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.”"
Gods eternalness is something that absolutely blows my mind. The fact that He was, and is, and is to come. Notice it doesn't say "who was, and is, and will be". He is to come. God is not bound by time like we are, so this idea is very difficult for me to think about. He was, and is, and is to come simultaneously. As far back as we can think, when God first invented time (in the beginning) God is there. And as far forward as we can think, God is there. And He isn't affected or changed by either. God doesn't think back to something that happened yesterday or a year ago or a thousand years ago because there is no past for God. He doesn't think back to anything because, well, there is no "back" if you know what I mean. There is no yesterday for God because He isn't bound by time. He's outside of it, and therefore not affected by it as we are. There is no tomorrow for God either. A mistake a lot of people make when thinking about God has to do with this. Some people think that because God knows what we're going to do tomorrow means that we don't have a choice but to do it, and that since God knows who will get saved that means He created certain people for the purpose of condemning them. But that's not true. God certainly does know every detail of everything that will ever happen, but that's because He has already been there. There is no tomorrow for God because, like I've said, He isn't bound by time. He is throughout all time, past, present, and future right now. This is a good reason to not worry about the future. Because God is already there.
Another amazing thought to go along with this is that God, being unbound by time, chose to step into time in the person of Jesus Christ in order to save us.
These are difficult thoughts for me being bound by time, because I've never been outside of it. I tried to talk a little bit about a truth that I don't really understand, but if I could understand everything about Him, He wouldn't be worth serving. What an amazing God we have.
Psalm 139:6 - "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it."
