As I was walking on the parkway yesterday, I was talking to
God about my future, and asking Him for guidance and direction. As I was
praying I asked God to show me the way that I should walk and
immediately verses about 'the way' started coming to mind. Verses like Isaiah
30:21 - "This is the way, walk in it." And John 14:6 - "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no
one comes to the Father but through Me." And Matthew 7:13-14 - "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and
the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter
through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to
life, and there are few who find
it."
Jesus Himself is the way. Gods word lights the way (Psalm 119:105). We have entered the small gate and are now traveling down the narrow way. I don't know about you, but it is very easy for me to wander from the path. So often I get distracted and lose focus on what’s really important. I get caught up with the things of this world. Jesus is the way. If I'm not focused on Him, than I've wandered from the narrow way. Hebrews 12:2 comes to mind. “Fixing our eyes on Jesus.” He is to be the center of our focus. When our eyes are fixed on Him there is no chance of us ever straying from the way. Nothing can hinder us. He won't lead us off the path. He is the path.
It reminds me of the time that Peter walked on water. When his eyes were fixed on Jesus he wasn't overcome by the sea, but as soon as he lost focus he began to sink. Often in the Bible the sea represents the world, or worldly things or mindsets. Just like Peter wasn't affected by the sea when He was focused on Jesus, we won't be overcome or overwhelmed, or affected by the world when we're focused on Him.
Many times when Jesus performed miracles He would say to the one that was healed "Go your way."
For instance in Mark chapter 10 when Jesus healed blind Bartimaeus He said to Him "Go your way; your faith has made you well." and it says, 'And immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.' That's interesting. He began to follow Him. Jesus' way became his way. Jesus said, "Go your way." and he walked right behind Jesus.
Earlier on in that same chapter Jesus tells the rich young ruler to sell all that he has and follow Him, but it says he went away sad. Unlike Bartimaeus, this mans way was not Christs way. Jesus told Him to follow. He told him this is the way, but he went his own way.
I don't know what the future holds, but I do know that whatever it is can't overwhelm me as long as my eyes are fixed upon Jesus.
