Here are just a few quick thoughts on the power in the name
of Jesus.
In the name of Jesus whatever we ask will be granted to us. John 14:31 – “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
His name contains life. John 20:31 – “but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.”
In His name we are washed sanctified and justified.1 Corinthians 6:11 – “Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”
His name is higher than any other and everyone will bow at His name. Philippians 2:9-11 – “For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
All these things are by the power of His name. It's interesting. It doesn't say the power of His might, or the power of His hand, or the power of His voice, though He has power in all these things and they are all biblical ideas, in these verses it talks about the power of His name.
In Acts chapter 3 Peter and John were going up to the temple to pray when they saw a lame man sitting by the gate. It says that he would sit at the gate and ask for alms, and Peter said to him, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene--walk!" And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
Peter didn't have money, and he didn't have power of himself, but he had something much better. He had the name of Jesus. By the name of Jesus this mans legs were strengthened and he was able to walk (and leap and praise God)
And then in verse 16 of the same chapter it says, "And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.”
There is great power in the name of Jesus.
