New Discovery? (1-1-11)

Last night Kelsey was telling me about a "new scientific discovery" one of her teachers was talking about. She said that they've recently learned that all human life has come from one woman. Isn't that amazing? And yet this is what the Christians have believed and taught all along. Genesis 3:20 clearly states - "Now the man called his wife's name Eve (living; or life), because she was the mother of all the living."
Throughout human history people have been making "discoveries" that, as it turns out, the Bible has been teaching all along.
When people believed the earth was flat, Isaiah 40:22 said - "It is He who sits above the circle of the earth." When doctors were bleeding people to death with the belief that their blood was bad, Genesis 9:4, Leviticus 7:11,14, and Deuteronomy 12:23 all clearly state - "The life of the flesh is in the blood." And in Job 38:16 God questioned Job about the "springs in the sea" and yet scientist didn't even discover that their were springs in the sea until 1977. This are only a few of the many examples of how the Bible, throughout all of time, has been right regardless of popular belief. Regardless of so called "science".(fulfilled prophecies are an even greater proof)
People who study population growth have even calculated that at one point in time the population of the earth bottle necked down to about eight people. And as the Bible teaches in Genesis 7, at the time of the world wide flood only Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth, and their wives survived. Huh, look at that, eight people. It seems their theories have agreed with the Bible once again!
You would think that since the Bible has been correct time and time again that people wouldn't have any trouble believing it, but evidence doesn't bring about believe. Jesus said to Thomas in John 20 - "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Belief comes by faith, and Hebrews 11 even says that faith itself is the evidence of things not seen. We don't believe in God because the evidence compels us to. We believe in Him not because man has revealed Him to us by his "discoveries," but because God has revealed Himself to us by His Spirit.

Paul talks about that in 1 Corinthians 2 which says - "And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God. Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; but just as it is written, Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ."

Man in his natural state doesn't want to believe that there is a God, and especially that He's the God of the Bible, because if God created us then that means He's is in charge of us. And people don't want to to be under someone else's authority. Because if someone else is in charge of you then you have to do what they say. And there are consequences for disobeying. So the easiest way for man to escape punishment and deny Gods authority is to deny His existence. If God doesn't  exist than hell doesn't exist either. Rather than submitting to God, people will come up with absolutely ridiculous, illogical ideas, call them "science" and deny His existence. It's a pride issue. The natural man wants to be in charge of his own life. Spiritual things are foolishness to the natural man. And because man has rejected God, He gave them over to themselves.

Romans 1:18-25 - "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen."
In mans sins they claim to have all the answers. They profess to be wise and yet their speculations are so futile. They became fools by denying God -  Psalm 14:1 says - "The fool has said in his heart there is no God."
2 Timothy chapter 4 says, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths."
The natural man wants to believe that their is no God, so they heap up teachers that claim there is no God. He wants to hear that he evolved from an animal and that there are no consequences for sin, so they heap up scientists and evolutionists to claim that we're nothing but animals and that there is nothing after death.

But after talking about this, Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:5 - "But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry." In the midst of naturally minded people and teachers, we are to be sober minded. Always in submission to the Holy Spirit and checking every teaching against the word of God, for that is our standard of truth. We are to endure hardship. When we stand for what the Bible says we will be ridiculed and mocked, but may God give us the grace to endure the hardship, with the knowledge that He is working all things together for good. We need to do the work of an evangelist. In a world full of false teaching we need to shine the true light. The light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. Preach, as Paul said, "Christ, and Him crucified."
If there's anything that's going to turn the world toward God, it's not evidence. It's not "new discoveries". It's Christ.
For God so loved the world that, in spite of our foolish hearts, in spite of our denial of His existence, in spite of our rejection of sound doctrine and heaping up teachers to tell us what we want to hear, in spite of this, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

The real new discovery isn't something found by science. It's the infinite love of God that we can discover in new ways every day.

Ephesians 3:17-19 - "that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God."
