Go forth (9-3-10)

Isaiah 49:9 – “Saying to those who are bound, 'Go forth.'”

This is only the first part of the verse, but that's all I'm going to deal with right now. God is speaking in this passage, and He says to those who are bound, 'Go forth.'
Who are those who are bound? Well, in this chapter God is talking about making salvation available to all the nations. In chapter 50 verse 1 it says we were sold for our iniquities. We were slaves to sin. Bound by it. But He said to us 'Go forth.' He released us from that bondage and took it upon Himself that we should no longer be slaves of sin. We were slaves of sin, bound by it, but when we asked Christ to take our bondage He took it and at that point we were crucified with Him.

This is great. Romans 6:7 says, "For he who has died is freed from sin."
Here's how I picture it. There is a man in prison who has done horrible things. Because of what he did he was given the death sentence. But while he's in prison awaiting his judgment he has a heart attack and dies. Because of his death he has escaped his judgment. They aren't going to put him in the electric chair because he's already dead. And they aren't going to leave him in his cell either. When he died he became free of both his judgment and his bondage.
It's the same way with us. We were sold into bondage because of our sin (Isaiah 50:1) , awaiting the death penalty (Romans 3:23), but while we were waiting to die Christ said to us, 'Go forth.' and we were crucified with Him. Through our death we became free from the bondage of sin and free from the coming judgment.

Romans 6:6-11 – “knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1 – “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

We were crucified with Him to escape the punishment for sin, and we were set free from the bondage of sin by becoming slaves to God. That amazes me! through death we escaped death and through bondage we were set free from bondage. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! Our God is amazing.

In John 18 Jesus said to the guards who came to take Him, (speaking of the disciples) "let these go." And in verse 24 it says, "Annas therefore sent Him Bound to Caiaphas the high priest." Jesus was bound in our place, and declared us free. Saying to those who are bound, 'Go forth'. What a God.
